Generally giving the birth of a baby is the most desired and happiest moment to any woman in this world. But coincidently the time span of childbearing is considered the most risky period for any woman. They may suffer from severe depression during this period for many reasons and hence they need to take some kind of antidepressant. The percentage of woman suffering from depression during their pregnancy is huge and they are normally given light dose of antidepressant due to their special physical condition.

Antidepressant like Fluoxetine is prescribed to cure the depression level of pregnant women. We all know that, the antidepressant Fluoxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), which increases serotonin neurotransmission in our brain. Compared with other antidepressant drugs, the SSRIs, such as FX, have fewer side-effects. Because of this, they are now frequently prescribed, especially during pregnancy.

Besides these common symptoms that can be commonly seen due to this drug, there are some rare but known side-effects that can be felt while using Fluoxetine.

Rare Side-effects:

Abnormal dreams
change in sense of taste
changes in vision
chest pain
constipation
dizziness or lightheadedness
dryness of mouth
feeling of warmth or heat

Fluoxetine Side Effects on July 18th, 2011

Fluoxetine is a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) that works as an antidepressant by raising levels of serotonin in the brain. There are few other trade names like Prozac, Sarafem, Fontex. Fluoxetine is generally prescribed to treat the depressive disorders and obsessive compulsive disorders in both adult and pediatric populations. Sometimes it has been used for the treatment of people who are suffering from panic attacks and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

Like every other medicine this antidepressant also has some side-effects on human body and mind. Some of the side-effects of are common and some are rarely found in the users of this drug. Fluoxetine is associated with insomnia, restlessness, nausea, and tension headaches, which usually go away within one to two weeks from the time it was first taken. There are few more side-effects that may remain for the time it is taken.
